My first long walk of this week long trip to the Lake District starts from YHA
Honister. The weather first thing was not encouraging, with the lower summits
in the area shrouded in mist. At points, visibility along the footpath was
measured in metres and it was a good thing that I had a map and GPS with me.

At about midday, I stopped for a rest at one of the bothies near Honister. In
the short time I was inside, the mist had cleared completely and I was given my
first view of Buttermere. There followed a pleasant walk down to the water's
edge for a picnic lunch.

I left Buttermere by the steep footpath towards Robinson, which had views of
nearby Crummock Water, though I would soon turn away from Crummock Water
towards Dale Head.

Finally, I walked from Robinson along the ridge to Dale Head. The view from
Dale Head is my favourite in the Lake District, so expect it to feature again
soon.
