The first day of a six day trip to the Lake District

Someone once wrote “Keep a mountain diary”. This is sound advice, as it’s often helpful to know how things like the predicted weather conditions and the contour markings on a map translate into the real world. However, lack of discipline and forethought means that there is a gap of about two weeks between my trip to the Lake District and my putting together these sparse notes.

My very first photograph from this trip isn’t of the Lake District. In fact, it’s of a row of trees against a changeable backdrop of clouds, and it was taken from the car park at Tebay services (northbound).

I made it to Lanefoot Farm, the first of the campsites I had booked, not long after leaving Tebay. Fortunately the weather here was much better, and that set the tone for the weather for the next week.

After pitching the tent, I went for a short walk to Braithwaite How, not far from the camspite. Though only 150 metres above sea level, I’ve already found this view of the edge of Braithwaite, and under very fine light.
