York

The city of York holds an important position in the railways of the United Kingdom, being a major stopping point on the East Coast Main Line between London and Edinburgh, as well as the home of the National Railway Museum, which can be found near the station. York is easy to reach by train from London, Edinburgh, and Birmingham, with direct trains from as far afield as Cardiff, Plymouth, and Penzance.

The National Railway Museum is close to the main line station, which itself is close to the city centre. The YHA is a fifteen minute walk from the city. To reach the city and the YHA from either the station or the National Railway Museum, cross the River Ouse via the Scarborough Rail Bridge, pictured here.

To reach the YHA, follow the river out of town, on the opposite bank and to the left. To reach the town, follow the path on either bank, and to the right. The much grander Lendal road bridge is a very short distance towards the town.
