few trains at Eastleigh station
I visited Eastleigh station on 13th April 2023, as I was working nearby. Unfortunately, my vsit coincided with a massive signalling failure at London Waterloo, which led to fourteen platforms being put out of use, and massive disruption to services through Eastleigh.
Still, a few passenger services were running, and freight was less impacted by the problem at Waterloo. Here, Class 158 No. 158886 stops at platform one. The platforms at Eastleigh can accommodate twelve car trains.
Class 66 No. 66704 heads North with an unusual mixed freight.
Eastleigh is a popular spot for railway enthusiasts. The same mixed freight is leaving the frame, watched by a line of enthusiasts on platform two. The disruption at London Waterloo means that the platform is deserted of fare-paying passengers. A Network Rail sign on the platform indicates that railway enthusiasts are welcome at Eastleigh, provided that they act safely.
One of the few passenger trains I did see on Thursday 13th April 2023, as well as my first sighting of a Class 450 third-rail EMU, was of No. 450104. The Travelodge in the background was my work provided hotel, conveniently close to the station and two doors down from a good cafe.
