A less strenuous day climbing Stile End and Barrow
After climbing Grisedale Pike yesterday, I decided on a less strenuous walk today, climbing the two shorter summits of Stile End and Barrow. Neither is a mountain; Barrow is the higher of the two at 455 metres. The walk from the campsite goes through the village of Braithwaite, crossing Braithwaite Common, passing the Coledale Inn and heading a short distance along the road out of the village. The road quickly turns into a gravel track and then a footpath, and the route to Stile End becomes obvious.
Here’s a telephoto view of Barrow, taken from Stile End.
There are some rocky outcrops on Barrow and there are views of Bassenthwaite lake, partly hidden by Seat How on the left.
The walk back to the campsite passes by a farmhouse called Braithwaite Lodge, and then back to Braithwaite Common.
