A relatively short walk from Ambleside is Wansfell Pike. At 482m and following well made paths, the walk can be completed in half a day, or at a relaxed pace, visiting the Stock Ghyll waterfalls on the way, it can occupy a full day.

The summit of Wansfell Pike is a small, rocky outcrop, and, a little unusually, the most spectacular views are from the summit itself. The fell walls go almost all the way to the top.

Now, looking back up towards the summit, the rocky outcrop at the top is clear. This is a popular peak, and I saw many people on the footpath up, and enjoying the sunshine at and around the summit.
